Chapter 18.06 ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE

This chapter is included in your selections.

The enrollment procedures for acquiring membership in the Cowlitz Indian tribe shall include, but are not limited to

(1) Each individual applicant fully completing all parts of the application, which includes a valid original certificate of live birth.

(A) Applications are available at the enrollment office.

(B) All applicants may ask the enrollment officer for assistance in filing their application or the enrollment process in general.

(2) The enrollment officer shall review the completed application and any other supporting documents.

(A) If the review of the application and supporting documents is found to be valid and not contradictory to tribal enrollment records, the enrollment officer shall forward the application to the enrollment committee for final review.

(B) If for any reason the enrollment officer finds the application or the supporting documents incomplete or contradictory to tribal enrollment records, they shall inform the applicant in writing of the reason(s) for rejection.

(3) The enrollment committee shall further review and evaluate the application.

(A) If the committee approves the application, the application is forwarded to the tribal council for ratification.

(B) If the committee determines the application is not acceptable, the application shall be returned to the applicant with a letter explaining the reason(s) for unacceptability.

(4) The tribal council per agenda shall consider the application and make one of the following decisions:

(A) Ratify the application and formally welcome the new member into the tribe.

(B) Table the application for further discussion.
